Hey everyone,
I did a very brief bit of poking around looking for resources on leatherworking (I wanna make my own holster), and I stumbled across this site: http://eightbits.home.att.net/. I've only glanced at the holster tutorial, but it looks to be pretty informative and useful.

Not to cross the streams, but SCA people do a TON of leatherworking, so for basic skills I'm sure they have tons of resources out there. Their sites won't tell you how to make a holster, of course, but since they're all normal peeps doing it some of their stuff might be pretty useful to the average crafter.
Of course, I don't have any actual pages, so I'm not that helpful, but just an idea while you're searching to include "SCA" in your search terms  |

If you talk with Josh, he does leather working and leather carving (er but not till after 9/20) and I'm sure he wouldn't mind teaching how he does it and going in with people on supplies and leather. He has a couple discount sites he likes but he tends to have to buy in larger quantities.

I used to teach leather work at scout camp. I'm happy someone found a free holster pattern. All the commercial ones I've found are way too expensive for my taste. If anyone is looking for a custom holster or rig for next season, or wants help with the anything, feel free to hit me up at spongejosh on gmail.

I'm looking to throw together a belt or something like it for next season and the thing I'm having a little trouble finding is a good website to sell sheets of leather.
So I have an idea of what I want to make, but what I don't have is a good source to buy 5-8oz leather. Pref died already. Anyone have a source or would know where to look? Thanks! Ryan |

I use this site quite often for leather supply. It's all overstocked or seconds, so the prices are good, but selection can be random. On the full hides and sides page, they've got vegetable tanned horse leather and tooling bellies. Both are good for belts.
