Excess Gear.

Post Excess Gear.
As many of you may have noticed... I have a plethora of gear. Rolling Eyes

To that note... I realized that there might be some issue with carrying as much as I do. So... I was wondering what the policy is for carrying multiple things.

For instance:

ex) Cian has 25 super-decked out Automatic Rifles, but only 1 Phys-Rep. Now... should Cian be carrying all of those tags on him, and if he is carrying all of those tags, does that mean Cian is basically a walking Armory? Can I simply put the tags in my backpocket, or do I need to carry them in obvious places so that people know that I have them?

I figured this might be kind of important... as I might have 25 Super-Decked Out Automatic Rifles, soon. Razz

Post The spirit of the rules
A lot of exiles isn't defined down to the nitty gritty.

This is definitely a good question, but would fall under what I consider the spirit of the rules. We have no super strict policy on what item is tagged to what rep, but it would definitely be considered bad play to be carrying tags for 10 kegs of gunpowder in your front pocket only to pull them out on a mod yelling "Lets use these!!!".

I would recommend if you have an excess of items on your person that you have no chance of having all the reps for to leave them in a "gear" location. Maybe a chest at your bedside or a stash in the woods or something. Of course IG theft comes to mind if you're leaving piles of tags on your bed, but I would remember that this is Exiles and thieves tend not to do well in a shoot first ask questions second universe Smile

The reason this is an important topic is because everyone should keep in mind that in Exiles the Rep is the item, not the tag. We have nothing on our tags stating that x rep relates to y tag except a proxy tag on guns. I would hope since LARP is an honor system that everyone would be consistent with what items they're using, and that no one is magically switching tags out on the same rep.

Also, this brings me to another point. Reps themselves. The exiles staff is more than willing to let everyone borrow the occasional rep for a gun, chopper, etc... Especially for new characters or new guns, but moving forward everyone should be trying to bring their own reps to the game that would cover their necessities. I'm not asking that you have a rep for every little thing you possess, but if you are a gunslinger that likes pistols and rifles you should probably have a personal rep of each on hand.

Can't emphasize enough that we go by "spirit of the rules" here in Exiles - and it's emphasized pretty well in the rulebook. Smile We want to represent a universe and we don't want to get bogged down by a million different rules - most of which get made because people try to exploit the system. So it comes down to spirit of the rules. And if a Plot or Staff person makes a call to keep with the spirit of the rules, then it's not appropriate to say "but there's no rule that says..." It ALWAYS comes down to the spirit, not the letter, of the rules.

Now, if you think the call is unfair for whatever reason, that's a different story. But if someone is obviously trying to exploit our non-profit, volunteer-run, "let's just have fun" game...that ain't cool. And a "spirit of the rules" call will almost always trump.

Hopefully that makes some sense Smile

Regarding rep rental - I was thinking, what about doing a bank learnin' cost to borrow reps from Exiles after the first so many events?

That way, people can still borrow stuff if they can't buy / make their own, but they gotta put something back into the game. I know the bank learnin' was largely to cover tiering out, and now hidden skills, but I think there's room for "purchasing" other OOG benefits.

This also would probably motivate me to stop being lazy and make my own damn reps. Razz

Thoughts?

Post HMMmm...
Very thought provoking Mr. Wedig Smile

I definitely want to encourage players to start getting their own reps together, but at the same time I don't want to make anyone feel penalized.

That is a very creative idea though! I'll have to have some internal discussion to see what would be possible in this department.
